Leaving Egypt

By: Leda Winebarger

Isaiah 31:1...
"Woe unto them that go down into Egypt for help."

Sometimes, it seems easier to go to "Egypt" for help.
In Biblical times, Egypt offered everything the flesh
could desire all you needed was the money to buy it.
The same is true in the spiritual sense today. We
may not have an "Egypt" close to us, but the world
has a lot of "Egypt-like" cures for what ails us. We
turn on the TV and block out problems rather than
talk to God about them.

We buy something new to make us feel good about
ourselves rather than repent. We use a good
fattening meal to satisfy many of our longings.
It seems easier to get advice from a friend than
to wait on God for an answer. We have been
trained to expect a quick fix. Then when the
remedy we got from "Egypt" doesn't work, or
causes more problems, we blame God.

Have you ever noticed that most of the time when
the Bible talks about Egypt it talks about
going DOWN? My, my...when will we
learn that in order to go to "Egypt" to get what
the world offers, we MUST go DOWN?

Deuteronomy 30:19 says:
"I have set before you life and; (all that heaven
offers) and death (all the Egypt {the world}
offers)...choose LIFE.

Deuteronomy 11:10..."For the land whither thou
goest in to possess is, IS NOT AS the land of
Egypt...11: But the land, whither thou ye go
to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys...
12: A land which the Lord the God careth for."

I've had my fill of "Egypt", haven't you? I
have found it to be false refuge and it's cure
short-lived. I have found it's pleasures to be
only for a season, leaving me more helpless
and hopeless than before I want to turn my
back on "Egypt" forever...I want to walk in
the land God has provided for me, LIVE in the
land God Himself careth for, don't you?
With His help we can do it.

Psalms 117:9..."I will walk before the Lord in
the land of the living!"
